UNICEF helps to save and improve the lives of children and their families across the world. They are active in more than 190 countries, impacting communities and regions in a several different ways. These ways include child protection and inclusion, gender equality, disabilities, child survival, uprooted children, disease treatment and prevention, immunizations, education, emergency situations, innovation for children, supply and logistics support as well as research and analysis.
They are also once of the leading resources for credible humanitarian information across the globe. An estimated 6.3 million children under the age of 15 die per year, or 1 in every 5 seconds. At least 5.4 million of these children are under the age of 5 and die from preventable and treatable causes. The number of hungry people around has reached more than 820 million people and the number is growing.
Some other stats they recognize and fight are the fact one in four births of children under the age of 5 around the world have never been registered. Numbers as high as 3 out of 4 children ages 2 to 4 worldwide experience some type of violent discipline on a regular basis. 61 million children are current out of school around the world severely limiting their education and future opportunities.
