International Rescue Committee

The International Rescue Committee was founded at the request of Albert Einstein because of what Adolf Hitler was doing as the chancellor of Germany. Einstein came together with more than 50 other prominent artist, intellectuals, clergy and political leader to form a branch of what was originally the International Relief Association.

The International Rescue Committee focuses their efforts in the areas of health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power. Right now they are focused on improving their already effective processes and systems. These areas of focus include improving their effectiveness, increasing their speed and timeliness, being more responsive to the people they serve, investing in research and development, expanding their reach and scale and making the best use of their resources. A great organization continues to get stronger and improve as they help more and more people across the world.

The International Rescue Committee works in regions all across the globe including in Africa, Asia, Central & South America, Europe, Middle East and the United States. Through their efforts in 2017 they:

  • Helped over 20 million people access primary health care.
  • Provided cash and asset transfer to over 175,000 refugees and vulnerable people.
  • Reached an estimated 2 million people affected by hunger crisis in East Africa, Nigeria and Yemen.
  • Provided 1.14 million children with schooling and other education opportunities.
  • Helped to create or support more than 16,000 business (73% of which are female owned).
