The Boy Scouts of America is one of the longest standing and largest youth development programs in the U.S. They help support more than 2.4 million members and almost 1 million adult volunteers. They offer year-round programs that promote leadership, character development, family, physical fitness and the outdoors.
Since their start in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America have impacted the lives of more than 110 million participants. They help to encourage a number of different values including trustworthiness, good citizenship and outdoor skills through their programs and activities. The traditional scouting divisions are:
- Cub Scouting – children grades K-5
- Boy Scouting – youth ages 11 to 18
- Venturing and Sea Scouting – ages 14 to 20
The Boy Scouts of America website (https://www.scouting.org) is a great resource to learn more about scouting. It includes information on the different Scouting program and divisions as well as information related to Scouting Safety and training for adults and volunteers. There are also online Scouting Resources with information about badges, commissioners and the eagle scout recognition as well as other Boy Scout awards.
